RRB JE Recruitment 2026 have announced CEN No. 04/2026 for recruitment of applicants to various Junior Engineer (JE) jobs and Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) posts in Indian Railroads. RRB JE Educational Qualification 2026

Educational qualification is not same for all posts. Candidates may refer to the relevant qualification listed against the post in Annexure A.

Few JE posts may be filled from individuals having a relevant three years Diploma in Engineering or a relevant Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology as per the post and subject.

The notification cites a number of Mechanical and allied engineering qualifications such as Mechanical, Production, Automobile, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Industrial, Machining, Tools and Die Making, Instrumentation and Control and linked disciplines.

Qualifications for Electrical related professions may be in Electrical, Electronics and specific combinations of relevant engineering disciplines. The Civil Engineering Posts are having specified Civil Engineering credentials.

Depot Material Superintendent Qualification

For Depot Material Superintendent announcement clearly prescribes three years Diploma in Engineering in any discipline from recognized university or institution.

Higher qualifications like B.E./B.Tech are also admissible in lieu of three years Diploma in Engineering in the same discipline.

Candidates awaiting final results of their mandated qualification on the closing date should not apply. You must already have the qualification required by 13 September 2026.

RRB JE Age Limit 2026

The age is calculated as on 1st January 2027 and the prescribed age category is 18 to 33 years.

The candidate should be not born after 1 January 2009 and should not be born before 2 January 1994 for the general age category, as per the notification. Relaxation of higher age limit for qualified categories as per rules.

The major age relaxations include:

• SC/ST: 5 years
• OBC-NCL: 3 years
• PwBD UR/EWS: 10 years
• PwBD OBC-NCL: 13 years
• PwBD SC/ST: 15 years

RRB JE Salary 2026

The candidates selected for the notified jobs of Junior Engineer and Depot Material Superintendent will be placed at Level 6 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.

Starting Salary : ₹ 35,400 The actual wage paid to an employee shall be based upon allowances and deductions applicable after appointment.

So, candidates should not get confused between initial basic pay of ₹35,400 and the end monthly take home payment.

RRB JE Exam Pattern 2026

The RRB JE Recruitment Examination comprises of two Computer Based Tests, followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination.

CBT-I

CBT-I is common for all notified posts and is primarily a screening examination.

Time allowed 90 minutes. Additional time allowed for qualifying applicants who take the test with a scribe.

CBT-I includes Number systems, Percentages, Ratio and proportion, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Time and work, Time and distance, Coding-decoding, Series, Syllogism, Analytical reasoning, Current affairs, Indian history, Geography, Polity, Economy and General Science up to Class 10 CBSE level.

There is negative marking of one-third of the marks allotted for each wrong answer.

CBT-II

Candidates shortlisted from CBT-I will appear for CBT-II.

CBT-II is 120 minutes. In the second stage CBT, a virtual calculator will be displayed on the computer monitor. Here also there shall be negative marking of one third of marks awarded for each question for each bad response.

RRB JE Selection Process 2026

The official recruitment process has four major stages:

1. First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I)
2. Second Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II)
3. Document Verification (DV)
4. Medical Examination (ME)

Candidates are shortlisted for CBT-II on the basis of normalized CBT-I marks. The number of candidates shortlisted for CBT-II is usually 15 times the community wise vacancies published against the particular RRB subject to the provisions in the notice.

Shortlisting for Document Verification is based on Performance in CBT-II and Options. Number of Vacancies = Number of candidates Shortlisted for DV Candidates have to bring original certificates at the time of DV. The final empanelment will be subject to the satisfactory verification of documents and the mandatory medical examination.

RRB JE Application Fee 2026

The examination fee is:

• ₹500 for candidates in the applicable general category. Out of this, ₹400 is refundable after appearing in the first-stage CBT, after applicable bank charges.
• ₹250 for SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minority and EBC candidates. This amount is refundable after appearing in CBT-I, after applicable bank charges.

The fee must be paid online through the prescribed payment modes.
